How to install Amarok 2.2 Sunjammer in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope
The new Amarok 2.2 Sunjammer is released. There are many updated and improved items. Amarok is available in many OS. In this post I want to show you how to install it in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope. Please note that this steps may differ or may not work with other Ubuntu version.
Scanning has improved and is now much faster and more accurate, the import of the Amarok 1.4 database has been improved and you can use an external MySQL database now, too. Insert an Audio CD and it will show up in the Collection Browser, allowing you to play directly from the CD or to copy the CD content to your collection. The same applies to media devices: UMS devices show up in the Collection browser, as do various other media players.
The Fresh New Look of Amarok
- Amarok 2.2 bundled with an almost completely new look and feel.
- Amarok 2.2 now has a new layout for the Browser Pane on the left and an easier navigation using "bread crumbs" on top.
- The Playlist has seen a complete overhaul and comes with many new features, allowing you to sort and shuffle the content.

- A new photo applet shows you pictures of the artist.
- A new video applet finds contextual videos for the now playing artist.
- Entire list of features here. Now lets do the installation of all new Amarok 2.2 in Ubuntu.
To install Amarok 2.2 in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope, please read the following steps:
1. First add GPG key first. Copy and paste the following command into your terminal.
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 0F7992B0
2. Add the Amarok software repository. Goto System > Administration > Software Sources and select Third-Party Software tab and click ADD. And Simply Copy-Paste the following lines:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/project-neon/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/project-neon/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
3. Now time to install Amarok 2.2. Go to terminal and execute the following
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install amarok-nightly
You are finished! Now Amarok 2.2 is installed. Simply run amarok-nightly in terminal to start Amarok. OR goto Applications > Sound and Video > Amarok Nightly.
