Mapinfo is known as the most popular GIS software. The ability and features inside this software is very useful to build an enterprise class of map, data management, exploration and mining industries. I have been using this Mapinfo for a while and so far its satisfy me and my cmpany.
Here is the Mapinfo Portable edition. I don’t know who create this portable edition of mapinfo. This Mapinfo portable is only consist of single mapinfo.exe file, no other file. You can execute this mapinfo portable from any removable device like flash disk, memory card or portable hard disk.
Mapinfo enable us to display the data in a more interactive way. It called Thematic Map. The Thematic Map will create a colored range on a given data. To create a thematic map is very easy and only take a few clicks. This video tutorial will show you step-by-step to create a simple Thematic Map in Mapinfo 10.
Sometimes we need to move the points in a map window directly. If we do this, the points will move into the new place, but the browser (data) still un changed. This tutorial will show you how to update the data (coordinates), after we move the points in the map window.
Okay lets start
1. Open the table
2. For example, move the points into new location directly by dragging the points.
The red dot above is the point before moving. And the actual coordinate is:
East: 388,057.45230861
North: 9,025,036.5009756
3. Now, I will move the point into a new location.
Ok, the red dot above is moved from its original location by dragging it manually. And you can see in the info tool box, the easting and northing coordinate is still exactly the same with its original.
East: 388,057.45230861
North: 9,025,036.5009756
4. Next is to update the coordinate of the new location, go to Discover|Data Utilities|Update Coordinates.
On the opened window, specify the table you want to update, choose the projection and update mode. There are two update modes, Point to data and data to points. In this case I should choose points to data because I want to update the data from the points. Also specify the X Column and Y Column. Then press OK
5. Here is the final result after coordinate was updated.
Look at the coordinate of the moved point:
East: 388,072.38553263
North: 9,025,031.8719178
Please also note that this step is not only for single point. You can update multiple points in once. Thanks to Discover
